To Best Serve SCI's Clients, Level AAA Standards Were Applied to this Site
SCI serves people in the state of Maryland who may have one or more disabilities. They help them to navigate the system, ensuring they get the supports and services needed to live fulfilling, meaningful, and independent lives.
Their previous website was very outdated, not accessible, and in fact was using an accessibility overlay (proven to hinder accessibility). The brand identity was vague and not well implemented.
Since accessibility of the website was a top priority for an audience of people with disabilities, we implemented level AAA accessibility throughout the site, to the greatest extent possible within the budget. And we provided training to the staff on the importance of accessibility and what it is on a website, how to write Alt text to make images accessible, and how to make PDFs accessible.
We hired WebAIM to provide another layer of accountability and had them review our wireframes, providing guidance to ensure our design and code was meeting AAA, and to provide manual testing of key pages by people using assistive devices.
We also provided a brand refresh to modernize and standardize the brand look and feel.
The new site makes it much easier for people to locate and access valuable resources and information, and makes it easy for people to contact the right department to get the help they need.
