Work Requests from WireMedia

To request new work from WireMedia, please send a detailed email with an explanatory subject line (ex. "Work Request"). Be sure to include any internal tracking information such as the project name or job number, and please send any relevant information such as attachments, links, text copy, images, etc. If there are too many attachments for a single email, you are welcome to send multiple emails or put items on an online server for us to download.

A written request provides a timestamp for turnaround, and allows us to document the request, delegate the work, and invoice you appropriately. It also saves us all a lot of time tracking things down.

Submitting Changes
Change is inevitable, and we know that your web and print projects are constantly evolving. Before you submit changes to us, please carefully review each project in its entirety. It is most efficient to submit changes in small batches, rather than one by one—this allows us to make the most of the time we spend making your changes and edits.

When submitting changes, please note the scope of work agreement you have established with WireMedia. If you are requesting a change that is outside the scope of work, please note it as such. This will help us better provide accurate estimates and reduce time spent trying to sort things out.

The end result is that a little pre-planning and organization on your end will save us time and save you money. And that makes us all happy.

Setting Up Your Email

Your web hosting provider typically provides a certain number of email accounts, and often provides a way to access them online via webmail. However, you may prefer to access them on your computer using your favorite email software, such as Microsoft Outlook or Macintosh Mail. To set up your software to send and receive email, you need certain pieces of information:

  1. Your email address (such as myname@mydomain.com)
  2. The password to your email account (usually sent to you by your hosting provider)
  3. The server address for INCOMING email (known also as POP or IMAP). If WireMedia is your web hosting provider, your INCOMING/POP server address follows this format: mail.yourdomainname.com (for example, if you hosted a site called www.theBigRedApple.com with Wiremedia, your POP server would be mail.theBigRedApple.com)
  4. The server address for OUTGOING or SMTP email. This address must be obtained from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)—this is the company that provides you with your internet connection. Common ISPs include Verizon, Earthlink, Roadrunner, etc. You need to contact your ISP to get their SMTP address—this information is often available in the customer service section of your ISP's website. Examples of server addresses include outgoing.verizon.net and smtp.earthlink.net

Once you've collected this information, you are ready to set up your email software. You will need to create a new account in your email software— this is typically done in the preferences panel of the software. As you create the new account, you should see fields in which to enter the information you've collected. Once you have successfully entered your settings and created your new account, you will be able to send and receive messages using your email software.

Search Engine Ranking

Search Engine Optimization and Ranking is a field entirely in itself, and many companies market solutions and services for making your site rank higher and appear more visible on the internet. These solutions and services are typically quite expensive and often unnecessary—there are simple steps that you can take to dramatically increase your ranking without having to pay extra money.

The keys are:

  • Use web standards to create your site code
  • Put the most relevant information at the top of the page
  • Use words and phrases in the main copy of your site that function as keywords, describing the page content. However, do not repeat the same words or phrases over and over again in gratuitous fashion—just use them naturally in the flow of text. Otherwise your site could get blacklisted by the search engines.
  • Submit your site to Google
  • Submit your site to DMOZ
  • If possible, get links to your site placed on other sites with high traffic volume, and that have content relevant to your own

WireMedia Hosting Clients

If you are hosting your website with WireMedia, here is important information about email and control panel access.

TO ACCESS EMAIL
Via Webmail:

  1. Replace the www of your domain name with "webmail" (ex. http://webmail.mydomain.com)
  2. Enter your email address as the username, then enter your password.

Via Email Software (such as Microsoft Outlook or Macintosh Mail):
Using the pieces of information below, follow the instructions outlined in SETTING UP YOUR EMAIL (above).

  • Username: your email address (ex. email@mydomain.com)
  • Password: your email password
  • Incoming Mail Server: mail.mydomain.com
  • Outgoing mail server: mail.mydomain.com
    In this case, the address for incoming and outgoing mail are the same. Select the option to use password authentication for outgoing mail, and enter your username and password as you did for incoming mail.


TO ACCESS YOUR CONTROL PANEL
You can use the control panel to manage your email accounts, set your FTP password, view your site's statistics, and backup your website's files.

  1. Go to: https://216.139.227.66:8443/
  2. Enter your login, which is your domain (ex. mydomain.com). Do not include www.
  3. Enter your password.
